Method: The distance-based method was used to record sightings of birds in the grassland and woodlot area. A distance of 10m was setup using a transect in both areas in five different locations. Each location was observed for five minutes before moving on to the next location. Frequency and number of species were recorded at each location along with distance away from transect and wind (Beaufort scale). Meta-data: The area was wet and rainy at the time the data was taken as well as being occupied by other groups trying to collect data. Frequency was recorded by each unique sighting of birds that have landed nearby. Distance was measured perpendicularly from the transect to the landing site of the birds using another transect. The number of species was identified by taking note of each bird’s appearance and looking it up on the internet. Information on wind was collected from the weather application on phone. Hypothesis: It was hypothesized that bird sightings would be low in the open grassland and higher in the woodlot because of the lack of cover available for the birds in the grassland and the presence of other people in the area, which may discourage birds from landing nearby. The woodlot provides the birds with sufficient covers as well as being less frequented by people, which may encourage the birds to land nearby. <br>
