Microbiomes of the Southern Ocean associated with microplastics biodegradation

Microplastics have permeated the global environment but microorganisms which are ubiquitous have genetically evolved to degraded most of these polymeric materials. Through experimental approach and in silico mining of target genes, we examined the potential for microbial degradation of associated microplastics in the Southern Ocean.
