Data and Code for "Projected Mortality and Economic Impacts of Extreme Temperature Events Under Climate and Socioeconomic Scenarios in a Mediterranean Climate Change Hotspot"

This repository accompanies the manuscript: "Projected Mortality and Economic Impacts of Extreme Temperature Events Under Climate and Socioeconomic Scenarios in a Mediterranean Climate Change Hotspot"by Kekkou et al. (2026). The repository contains the data and R scripts required to reproduce the analyses presented in the manuscript. The workflow includes the estimation of baseline temperature–mortality relationships using Distributed Lag Non-linear Models (DLNM-GAMs), followed by the application of the estimated exposure–response function to historical climate simulations and future climate projections under multiple climate and socioeconomic scenarios. These analyses are used to estimate temperature-attributable mortality, expressed as both the Attributable Fraction (AF) and the Attributable Number (AN) of deaths.
