Monthly inbound overnight stays in non-hotel accommodations in Italy 2019-2021

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic hit the Italian tourism industry hard in 2020 and 2021. Due to the impact of the health crisis, the number of inbound overnight stays in non-hotel accommodations reached around 348 thousand in March 2020, decreasing from two million in the previous month. In April 2020, this figure dropped further, hitting the record low of 126 thousand. Over the summer months of 2020 and 2021, this scenario improved. In July 2021, international overnight stays in non-hotel facilities rose to 10.9 million, doubling over 2020 but remaining below pre-pandemic levels.
