Paleo- and rock magentic data of core PS97/084-1@en

During Expedition PS97 of the Research Vessel POLARSTERN to the Drake Passage in 2016, three sediment cores, PS97/085-3, PS97/084-1, and PS97/079-2 were collected along the Shackleton Fracture Zone. The age model of core PS97/085-3 was constructed using a combination of radiocarbon dating and tie points from paleomagnetic and environmental tuning (refer to https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.923843). The age models of cores PS97/084-1and PS97/079-2 were determined by tuning their rock magnetic parameters to those of core PS97/085-3. Rock magnetic results indicate that the magnetic minerals in the three sediments cores are dominated by (titano-)magnetite and have well-preserved geomagnetic signals. This dataset includes rock magnetic results of bulk magnetic susceptibility, anhysteretic remanent magnetization (ARM), and saturated Isothermal remanent magnetization (SIRM), and paleomagnetic results of characteristic inclination and declination, natural remanent magnetization (NRM) after alternating field (AF) field of 30 mT (NRM30mT), and relative paleointensity (RPI). RPIs are determined by NRM30mT/SIRM for cores PS97/084-1, and PS97/079-2, and by ln(NRM30mT)/ARM for core PS97/085-3.
2016年,“极地号(POLARSTERN)”科考船执行PS97航次前往德雷克海峡(Drake Passage)开展科考,期间沿沙克尔顿断裂带(Shackleton Fracture Zone)采集了PS97/085-3、PS97/084-1及PS97/079-2三根沉积岩芯。PS97/085-3岩芯的年代模型通过放射性碳定年法结合古地磁与环境调谐的控制点构建而成(详见https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.923843)。PS97/084-1与PS97/079-2两根岩芯的年代模型,则通过将其岩石磁学参数与PS97/085-3的参数进行调谐确定。岩石磁学结果显示,三根沉积岩芯中的磁性矿物以(钛)磁铁矿为主,且保存有完好的地磁信号。本数据集包含体积磁化率、非滞后剩磁(anhysteretic remanent magnetization, ARM)、饱和等温剩磁(saturated isothermal remanent magnetization, SIRM)等岩石磁学结果,以及经30 mT交变场(alternating field, AF)清洗后的天然剩磁(natural remanent magnetization, NRM,记为NRM30mT)、特征倾角与偏角、相对古强度(relative paleointensity, RPI)等古地磁结果。其中,PS97/084-1与PS97/079-2的相对古强度通过NRM30mT与SIRM的比值计算得到,PS97/085-3的相对古强度则通过ln(NRM30mT)与ARM的比值计算得到。
