THE REAL-WORLD PROBLEM Collapsed environments kill more people during movement than during the collapse itself. • A rescuer steps wrong → the floor shifts → the void collapses further• A survivor twitches → pressure changes → rock pinches their airway• The ground looks solid → but it’s basically a Jenga tower made of gravel You need something that: ✔ fills voids✔ stabilizes weak floors✔ prevents further collapse✔ doesn’t harden permanently✔ doesn’t suffocate anyone✔ doesn’t react with water✔ doesn’t heat up (NO exothermic foam — forbidden)✔ can be removed easily later And lucky for us? Chemistry’s been quietly offering answers for years.Nobody applied them to rescue tech. Till now.
