The project Biogenic Dyes aims to develop novel dyes/pigments from microbial origin. Conditions of pigment production and origin of precursor are investigated. Known and unknown microbial pigments will be isolated and characterized. Interesting microorganims will be sequenced to identify biosynthetic gene clusters and to predict a putative biosynthetis pathway. This project is financed by the Austrian Forschungsfoerderungsgesellschaft (FFG) in the program "Bridge"
