Global and regional trends in anthropogenic mercury emissions, 2000-2015

This repository contains an inventory of anthropogenic mercury emitted to air during the period from 2000 – 2015. Estimates are provided for the year 2000 and then annually for the six years from 2010-2015. Estimates are constructed for 17 world regions and 17 source categories following methods described in Streets et al. (2019) and references therein. Region- and sector-level emissions are provided in table format (.csv), and global emissions are provided in a gridded NetCDF format for modeling applications. NetCDF emission files are gridded to 1° x 1° horizontal resolution, with component data for three mercury emission species (Hg0, Hg2, and HgP) and units of kg m-2 s-1. The spatial distribution of emissions within each world region is based on the WHET inventory from Zhang et al. (2016). Emissions for the years 2001-2009 are a linear interpolation of years 2000 and 2010. Gridded emissions comply with COARDS data conventions, and the complete gridding workflow is available on GitHub.
