The Pseudomonas syringae type III effector HopT1-1 has previously been shown to interact with Arabidopsis AGO1 and to inhibit its RNA silencing and Pattern-triggered immunity (PTI)-related functions.HopT1-1 interacts with Arabidopsis AGO1 through conserved glycine/tryptophan (GW) motifs, and in turn suppresses miRNA function. This process is not associated with a general decrease in miRNA accumulation. Instead, HopT1-1 reduces the level of AGO1-associated miRNAs in a GW-dependent manner.We show that the stable expression of HopT1-1 in Arabidopsis additionally triggers dwarfism, spontaneous cell death and constitutive expression of salicylic acid (SA)-dependent marker genes. These phenotypes are substantially reduced at high temperature regime, as typically found in plants exhibiting constitutive Effector Triggered Immunity (ETI).
