Parkes observations for project P855 semester 2014OCTS_06

We propose to search for cosmological fast radio transients and intermittent pulsars during windstows and maintenance. Fast radio transients are millisecond bursts of radio emission coming from cosmological distances, of which five are currently known. New discoveries made in our searches will enable better characterisation of this unexpected population of objects. We will also search for intermittent pulsars, which have duty cycles of 0.1 to 0.2 and time scales of weeks to months that were likely missed in previous surveys.

本研究拟在观测待机与系统维护期间，搜寻宇宙学快速射电暂现源（Fast Radio Transients）与间歇脉冲星（Intermittent Pulsars）。快速射电暂现源是源自宇宙学距离的毫秒级射电爆发辐射，目前已知此类事件共5例。本次搜索取得的新发现，将助力更精准地表征这一始料未及的天体族群。此外，我们还将搜寻占空比（duty cycle）为0.1至0.2、时标为数周至数月的间歇脉冲星——这类天体大概率在过往巡天观测中被遗漏。
