FlammaSpec: a 2D dataset of vegetation spectra and biophysical traits related to flammability

FlammaSpec is a dataset of vegetation spectral reflectance and biophysical traits related to flammability. The dataset includes the following leaf traits: Pigments, nitrogen (%), Carbon (%), phosphorus (%), cellulose (%), dry weight (g), fresh weight (g), moisture content (%), Leaf Area (cm2), Leaf Mass per Area (g/cm2). These biophysical traits drive leaf-level flammability in eucalypt species therefore it is important to understand how they vary over time, and how changes in these traits can be detected from airborne and spaceborne sensors. FlammaSpec holds laboratory foliar chemical analyses results for field samples collected between 2021-2024 in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Australia. Leaf samples from nine species of eucalypts were collected from the National Arboretum Canberra (ACT), the Lower cotter Catchment Reserve (ACT), and at the Australian National University. Spectral data covering the 400-2500 nm range accompanies each sample alongside comprehensive metadata. FlammaSpec is comprised of 1034 samples, and supports the spectral and biochemical characterization of flammability traits over time.
