DescriptionThis dataset accompanies the study “Global Fine-Scale Assessment of the Technical and Economic Potential of Solar Photovoltaic Power Using Google Earth Engine”, providing comprehensive geospatial data products and code to support replication and further analysis. It includes: Global 1-km raster layers representing: Solar resource potential (irradiance-based) Technical potential, accounting for terrain, land use, slope, and protected area exclusions Economic potential, defined as grid cells satisfying affordability and infrastructure-access criteria (payback period ≤ 15 years; distance to road/settlement ≤ 50 km) Country-level summary tables, aggregating PV potential under each scenario (resource, technical, economic) using high-resolution administrative boundaries. GEE JavaScript code, used to compute expected payback periods from multi-source global inputs including annual benchmark electricity prices, total installation costs, and geospatial constraints. The code also incorporates economic screen criteria and generates the above raster outputs. All raster files are provided in GeoTIFF format with a 1 km spatial resolution in WGS 84 (EPSG:4326). Country-level statistics are provided in CSV format. The code is available as a GEE script and a downloadable .js file. These resources allow researchers, planners, and policymakers to replicate our analysis or customize it for regional applications, infrastructure planning, and investment prioritization in support of Sustainable Development Goal 7 and global solar energy deployment strategies.
