A cruise from Vancouver to Singapore in the summer of 2019 was undertaken to study plastic pollution in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Biofilms were sampled from surface water and were plated on various marine media to isolate a diversity of plastic-associated bacteria. A selection were passaged in the laboratory and their whole genomes were sequenced.
