The bacterial consortia from sediment isolated from three lakes in south eastern British Columbia were cultured. Leeches Lake - freshwater, Liberty Lake - brine, Spotted Lake - alkalai. These consortia were subjected to repeated freeze-thaw cycles to study changes in community make-up and whether the brine and alkalai consortia would show cross-tolerance to temperature stress.
