资源简介:
This study aimed to explore the translation techniques used in the Thai subtitles of the Netflix series, Emily in Paris Season 3. The first two episodes of the Netflix series were analyzed based on the translation theories of Newmark (1988) and Baker (1992). By comparing the English dialogues with their Thai subtitles, eleven distinct translation techniques were identified. The frequencies of each translation technique were calculated as a percentage and summarized to identify the most commonly used methods. The identified techniques in this study include: (1) Communicative translation, (2) Semantic translation, (3) Adaptation translation, (4) Translation Using a Loan Word, (5) Translation by Omission, (6) Translation by a More Neutral/Less Expressive Word, (7) Literal translation, (8) Idiomatic translation, (9) Translation by Paraphrase Using a Related Word, (10) Translation by a More General Word, and (11) Faithful translation. The study highlighted the strategic application of various translation techniques to ensure clear, understandable, and culturally relevant subtitles for the Thai audience, thereby enhancing their engagement with the story and overall viewing experience.
