Survey of Trauma, Resilience, and Opportunity among Neighborhoods in the Gulf (STRONG) II: Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi

The purpose of the Survey of Trauma, Resilience, and Opportunity among Neighborhoods in the Gulf (STRONG) II was to follow-up the STRONG I participants who resided in Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi to assess the effects of the 2017-2018 hurricane season on their well-being. Respondents were asked about their experiences related to the hurricanes including hurricane exposure, evacuation, casualties and dangers related to the hurricanes, damage and losses, and post-hurricane recovery and relocation; they were also asked about dimensions of well-being including mental health, physical health, traumatic experiences, and alcohol use. Additional questions asked about housing, sources of information, employment, risk perceptions, and demographics. STRONG II administration entailed telephone interviews and mailed surveys that were collected from January to May of 2019. The total sample comprised 751 respondents in counties/parishes across the four states that were within close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico.
