Diet diversity was analyzed by metabarcoding DNA extracted from gut contents of 107 juvenile Black Sea Bass (mean length = 35 mm). Juveniles were collected from Long Island Sound, NW Atlantic Ocean, during Summer 2018 and 2019. Metabarcoding used V9 18S rRNA and mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (COI). We conclude dense juvenile BSB settlement events would compete with other benthic-oriented fish species that primarily consume decapods, polychaetes, and amphipods, in near-shore habitats of Long Island Sound.
