Previously Published PEMWE Pol Curves

The attached excel file compares the performance achieved by Shi. et al in their Science paper (Science 387(6735): 791-796, 2025) to that previously published by others. It is clear that Shi et al. are obtaining shockingly low performance from their baseline IrOx catalyst. The data has been updated to include additional data for Elyst Ir75 0480 (presumably the baseline used by Shi et al.). Additionally, the data for Hegge has been corrected as the original extraction of this data from Hegge, F., et al. ACS Applied Energy Materials 3(9): 8276-8284, 2020 contained an error.

This primary points here are:

a) Identical performance to that reported by Shi et al. in Science 387(6735): 791-796, 2025, has already been achieved using a commercial catalyst at an even lower loading than that used by Shi et al.

b) The 'baseline' performance reported by Shi et al. is surprisingly low and warrants an explanation, as it does not appear to fairly represent the baseline material.
