Xenobiotic drug metabolizing cytochrome P450 3A enzymes are known to selectively hydroxylate testosterone at various positions. One particular hydroxylation product, 1beta-hydroxytestosterone, has been implied to be a hydroxylation product but the authentic standard is not commercially available. Therefore, a synthesis of 1beta-hydroxytestosterone was accomplished in eight steps. The NMR data of the intermediates in the synthesis are provided.
