Laboratory persistence and resistance induction of Escherichia coli

Persister cells are dormant bacterial cells that are formed in stressful environments such as antibiotics, starvation, and oxidative stress. Since they are in a dormant state, no genetic modifications are expected to occur. Therefore, we hypothesized that there are differences in the genomes of persister cells and resistance cells that acquire environmental resistance. To prove this, we induced persistence and resistance in the laboratory and analyzed the DNA sequence.
