Data Essentials: UK Consumer Price Inflation (CPI)

**Introduction**

This dataset offers an extensive collection of time series data on UK inflation, including measures such as CPIH, CPI, and RPI.

Estimates for CPIH and CPI spanning from 1950 to 1988 and index values from 1949 to 1987 are also included. It's important to note that these early estimates are not classified as National Statistics. They were created through modeling and are provided for reference purposes only.

In December 2018, an extended series for CPIH components (1988 to 2004) and CPI components (1988 to 1995) was published. Recently, historical series for goods and services analyses have been added. These extended series were modeled following the introduction of CPIH and CPI and are not part of the current National Statistics series, which are reported to one decimal place.

The dataset features six tables. Three tables involve an all-items aggregate of CPI, CPIH, and RPI. The three other tables include different time intervals of the complete set of features (4,052 total). Note that not every feature contains data for specific intervals. Periodically, a bulletin is released, which gives context to the numbers, and can be found at [ONS](https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/inflationandpriceindices/bulletins/consumerpriceinflation/latest).
