Egg and chick size in the nests of common gulls in Lake Chany, West Siberia, Russia from 1993 to 2011

A long-term study of breeding ecology of gulls has been carried in the area of Lake Chany. Lake Chany is located in the Baraba forest-steppe of the West Siberian Plain, Russia, between the Ob and Irtysh rivers. The Lake is protected by the Ramsar Convention on the Wetlands of International Importance, indicating that the lake is an important site for migrating and breeding birds, including the Common gull Larus canus (Linnaeus, 1758). We provided data on the size and fate of all eggs as well as the size of hatched chicks in Common gull nests from 1993 to 2011. The data can be used to assess how environmental changes caused by human activity, including global warming, affect the reproduction and population dynamics of migratory birds.本研究针对鸥类繁殖生态学开展了长期定位研究，研究区域位于俄罗斯西西伯利亚平原鄂毕河与额尔齐斯河之间的巴拉巴森林草原带的查尼湖（Lake Chany）周边。查尼湖已被纳入《拉姆萨尔国际重要湿地公约》（Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance）的保护范畴，这表明该湖是候鸟与繁殖鸟类的重要栖息与繁殖地，其中包括普通海鸥（Common gull，*Larus canus* Linnaeus, 1758）。本研究团队整理了1993年至2011年间普通海鸥巢内所有卵的数量、卵的大小及存活结局，以及孵出雏鸟的体型数据。该数据集可用于评估包括全球变暖在内的人类活动所引发的环境变化对候鸟繁殖成效与种群动态的影响。
