The Genomics and Metagenomics of Asthma Severity (GEMAS) study aims to profile the salivary, nasal, and pharyngeal microbiome in patients with asthma, and investigate its association with asthma-related phenotypes (e.g., exacerbations). The upper-airway bacterial microbiome was profiled by targeted sequencing of the V3-V4 region of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene (16S rRNA) using the MiSeq platform from Illumina (300bpx2).
