The project aimed to describe the virome of the South African Neoromicia bat genus by using viral metagenomic high throughput sequencing methods. Samples used in the virome spanned 8 years and focused on the presence of MERS-related coronaviruses and discovery of other mammalian-infecting viral families with unknown zoonotic potential.
