Field dependence of the incommensurate phase in Ca3Ru2O7

The layered perovskite ruthenates are a fascinating family of materials, in which electron correlations, distorted octahedral crystal fields and spin-orbit coupling combine to produce myriad electronic and magnetic phases. Bilayer Ca3Ru2O7 undergoes a coupled structural, electronic and magnetic transition at Ts = 48K. On recent experiments at WISH (RB1920210) and I16 at the Diamond Light Source, we discovered an incommensurate phase that appears in the vicinity of this transition. There is an outstanding question, however, regarding how this phase relates to satellite peaks previously seen in Ca3Ru2O7 under magnetic fields. Here we propose to resolve this question using single crystal neutron diffraction at WISH, allowing us to complete the dataset needed for a publication.
