BACKGROUND: The completed work was reviewed and published by Apple in February 2014 and Amazon in October 2013. The international app development market continues to evolve and enables the self-publishing designer to explore and define these opportunities. This research explores these dynamics within the children's game/app markets. This research explored these questions: • Can a game be designed and communicated with as little text based content as possible? • Would the style of game be more successful within the Asian children's markets where the 'cute' genre reigns supreme? • Could the 3D tool within the production software Illustrator be used to construct all the graphic elements? CONTRIBUTION: The work contributes to new knowledge in the artists self-development working within a particular genre and graphic styles. The illustrations within the work display new methods of visual development and design using specific software methods not normally associated with character design. SIGNIFICANCE: The significance of this research is that overcomes language barriers to allow multi-lingual consumers, specifically children to access the product, especially within the Asian markets. This is ratified by its ranking in the top 100 for children aged 6-8 in in China, Korea and Japan on its release. The product is available globally. The work will contribute to my pending doctoral research into the self-publishing markets.
