Media Frames of Postpartum Depression Dataset

This study deals with the role of media in shaping society's perceptions of mental illness and identity. It uses the case study of Andrea Yates, who admitted to and was prosecuted for murdering her five children in 2001, and was later diagnosed with postpartum psychosis. It consists of a content analysis of 126 news articles from three publications: The New York Times, USA Today and The Associated Press. All articles cover various cases of postpartum depression and are reviewed in the context of two time periods, the first dating from June 2001 to December 2002 and the second, after December 2002.
