In Experiment 1, the independent variable is the level of frustration, and the dependent variable is the children's persistence, represented by the average persistence time in the three impossible tasks B4, B5, and B6 during the formal measurement phase. The data also includes the children's emotional experience before and after the frustration experience, as well as their willingness to continue playing after the formal measurement phase. In Experiment 2, the independent variables are the level of frustration and upward social comparison, and the dependent variable is the children's persistence, again represented by the average persistence time in the three impossible tasks B4, B5, and B6 during the formal measurement phase.
