we determined first the genome sizes in Acrididae by using flow cytometry, then used de novo repeat sequences recognition approaches based on low-coverage (0.05X) high-throughput Illumina unassembled short reads to characterize the repetitive elements of 66 species in the family Acrididae, an insect clade characterized by high species diversity and enormous genome sizes.
