Rev. Walter H. Schwane Collection, 1955-2021

<P>Rev. Walter H. Schwane graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1938. He served the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod as a pastor from 1939 to 2007 with calls in Cleveland, Ohio; Indiana; Missouri; and Illinois. Rev. Schwane married Helen S. Kramer (1916-2009) in 1939; the couple had eight children.</P>

<P>The collection contains correspondence, newspapers and clippings, photos, and notes about the Katie Jane Memorial Home fire that occurred on Sunday, February 17, 1957, in Warrenton, Missouri. Rev. Schwane conducted a worship service when the fire occurred; he saved several bedridden and trapped residents. The collection is arranged alphabetically by topic and/or type of document. It dates from 1955 to 2021 with large gaps: 1960-1967, 1969-1996, 1998-2013, and 2015-2020. The bulk of the collection dates from February through March 1957.</P>
