A traditionally widely requested and consulted part of the collection of the Regional Archives Nijmegen are the population registers. These registers were kept from about 1820 (and consistently from 1850) until 1920. Every ten years from 1850, a new set of registers was created. The blocks 1820-1850 and 1850-1890 were introduced in the past via the platform VeleHanden. The 1890-1920 block has been developed internally.
The dataset contains more than 70,000 records with more than 500,000 registrations of individuals. This concerns all registrations of persons between 1820 and 1910. The dataset contains a large amount of data about the former residents of Nijmegen: names, professions, birthplaces, etc. All traceable to the original source in the archive and linked to scans. The dataset also contains data on the refugee registers 1914-1918 in which Belgian refugees were registered and data concerning the Jewish residents of Nijmegen in 1784. The dataset is not yet complete: in 2020, the population registers for the years 1910-1920 will be added to it.
The data comes from the Digital Study Room of the Regional Archive Nijmegen and is modelled according to the A2A model. The dataset is offered via OAI-PMH harvesting.
