Triclosan (TCS) is a widely used effective antibacterial agent, which is found throughout aquatic environments. However, the toxicity and underlying molecular mechanisms of TCS on protozoa are not known, especially photosynthetic and transcriptional responses. In this study, the acute (96 h) and subacute toxicity (8 days) of TCS to the protozoan Euglena gracilis were determined, and photosynthetic and transcriptional alterations were investigated to reveal the molecular mechanisms of TCS toxicity.
