A track reconstruction program (TRP) for evaluation of nucleus-nucleus collisions in nuclear track emulsion chambers

Abstract
Given are samples of points on several parallel sheets. Most of these are intersection points of straight lines originating from a common “vertex” outside the sheets. The TRP reconstructs these lines and their origin, the vertex.

Nature of problem
In high energy heavy ion physics nucleus-nucleus collisions produce particles moving in a narrow cone along the beam axis. In a typical experiment using emulsion chambers with gold targets there are multiplicities of singly charged particles observed of the order of 500. The beam was in this case 32S of 200 GeV/nucleon.
