This dataset contains experimental results assessing the combined effects of female–female competition and fluctuating thermal stress on the incidence of summer diapause in the offspring of the cereal aphid parasitoid Aphidius ervi. Parasitoids originated from populations collected in western France and were reared on the aphid host Sitobion avenae maintained on winter wheat. During a 30-hour oviposition period, mated females were exposed to one of three fluctuating temperature regimes representative of current and future warming scenarios: (i) moderate warming (24 ± 2°C), (ii) intensive warming (26 ± 2°C), and (iii) intensive warming combined with an acute heat stress (+6°C for 40 min). For each female, diapause incidence, mortality and adult emergence rates of the progeny were recorded by isolating mummies and monitoring development until emergence or dissection.
