Earthquake – earthquake: Measuring stations Protection ranges

The online map of earthquake events represents the earthquakes registered by the Rhineland-Palatinate Land Earthquake Service since 2000. As shown in the description of the station network (https://www.lgb-rlp.de/fachthemen-des-amtes/landeserdbebendienst-rheinland-pfalz/erdbeben-stationsnetz.html), the LER is a locally oriented measuring network, only earthquakes around Rhineland-Palatinate are shown. A tabular list of registered earthquakes can be found here.:In the planning of wind turbines, distances to earthquake measurement stations must also be taken into account. The distances are necessary because the construction and operation of the wind turbines can affect or disturb the registration of the seismic signals. The possibility of installing a wind turbine within the protected areas must be decided on a case-by-case basis. If such protection areas are affected within the site planning for wind turbines, contact with the Rhineland-Palatinate Land Earthquake Service based in the LGB should be established at an early stage. The designated protection areas represent general test areas. This means that, subject to case-by-case testing, a minimum distance of 3 km (exclusion area) must be observed from the earthquake measurement stations and in the further area up to 5 km individual tests must be carried out (individual case testing area). The LGB is the body of public interest and is involved in the planning approval procedures for the construction and operation of wind turbines.
