Preserving employment: The Ministry of Labour in the face of the health crisis

In response to the health crisis and its economic and social consequences, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Inclusion has provided massive and rapid support to companies and employees. In addition to emergency measures implemented in the early stages and extended beyond the original deadline, from the summer of 2020 there was a wealth of schemes meeting various objectives to take account of new emergencies and prepare for the post-crisis period. The resources committed within the scope of the Ministry of Employment are unprecedented: For an executed budget of EUR 13,4 billion in payment appropriations in 2019 and EUR 31,8 billion in 2020, the General Delegation for Employment and Vocational Training had EUR 29,8 billion at the beginning of 2021, not counting the financing by the Unédic of certain measures and the additional appropriations made available during the year.
