Energy scenarios in view of 2030 and 2050 climate targets

Energy scenarios are an essential basis for the discussion of national climate policy and for fulfilling the reporting obligation in the framework of the Monitoring Mechanism. The Federal Environment Agency prepared several energy and GHG scenarios for this purpose. While the WEM scenario only takes into account measures already implemented, the WAM scenario also outlines measures that are considered likely to be implemented. In addition to the WEM scenario (average 1.5 % economic growth by 2030, then 1.3 % p.a.), sensitivity scenarios were calculated at 2.5 % p.a. and 0.8 % p.a. and adjusted energy prices. Only in the WAM scenario will all national targets (1.050 PJ final energy consumption; 34 % share of renewable energy sources; —16 % GHG) for 2020.
