Responses of ant biodiversity to moderate disturbance in a peri-urban forest (Agia Paraskevi, Attica, Greece)

This study examined the composition and diversity of arthropod communities in the peri-urban forest of Agia Paraskevi, Attica, to assess the effects of moderate urban disturbance on Mediterranean ecosystems. Arthropod sampling was conducted during a full year (June 2022 - May 2023) using pitfall traps, both in natural areas and in areas under human influence. In this dataset, we provide data on ant community composition and diversity in this peri-urban forest. These data are provided as supplementary material to a scientific article on the subject. Findings suggest that ant communities in this peri-urban forest exhibit resilience to moderate anthropogenic disturbance, with species diversity, community composition and abundances being not statistically significant between disturbed and undisturbed sites. Specimens and data were curated in the framework of Athanasia Douzou's BSc project.
