Significant balancing selection results in a minimum of two different tests.

Observed (Obs) FST with selection significance (highlighted P value<0.01) for the three continents (Africa, Asia and Europe), and for Europe and North Africa. Global cross-continental FST scores and Tajima’s D test results in the CEU, CHB, and YRI samples from the 1000 Genomes Selection Browser. Significant high and low FST values (extreme top 5% values of the distribution of FST values across the genome), and signals of potential balancing selection (P value≤0.05) are highlighted in bold. Both FST and Tajima D P values were calculated on the basis of higher rank scores in the genomic distribution.
