XMM study of Ultraluminous IRAS galaxies

GTRedshift surveys of extragalactic IRAS sources have revealed a class of Ultraluminous IRAS Galaxies (ULIRGs). The proposed XMM observations of ULIRGswill allow us to (i) precicely determine the intrinsic Xray column density ofneutral hydrogen and warm absorbers and to compare this with the IRopticalreddening, (ii) compare the relative amounts of the soft and hard flux to further deconvole the relative contributions from the starburst and block holeaccretion processes in ULIRGs, (iii) search for iron line emission. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
