Statue of Calliope

The modern additions of the stylus and the tablet identify the statue as Calliope, muse of epic poetry. She is a Roman copy of the Hadrian period, inspired by the famous group of nine Muses created by Philiskos of Rhodes (2nd Century BC) or, according to more recent studies, by the group created by Lysippus for the acropolis of Megara (317-307 BC). In the Boncompagni Ludovisi Collection she was paired with Urania and displayed in a symmetrical position.
