This item contains viral genome data files supporting our manuscript on the evolutionary relationships between HK97-fold viruses and encapsulins. The work was carried out in the Luque Lab (Department of Biology, University of Miami). We identified small (< 20 kbp) complete genomes encoding HK97-fold proteins from public environmental omics data, focusing on viral contigs with direct terminal repeats (DTRs). Viral genome completeness and trimming of non-viral regions were assessed using the CheckV pipeline.
data_file_S1_IMG_datasets.xlsx: Complete list of Joint Genome Institute (JGI) Integrated Microbial Genomes & Microbiomes (IMG) associated datasets used in this study, including study identifiers and associated DOIs.
data_file_S2_biomes_classification.csv: Hierarchical biome classification schema used to map metagenomic contigs to ecological categories (after Ivanova et al., 2010), including all biome categories across multiple levels.
data_file_S3_associated_biomes.csv: Metadata table linking each environmental viral contig to its assigned biome(s), along with relevant sample-level information.
data_file_S4_IMG_genomes.fna: FASTA file containing all environmental viral contigs analyzed in this study. Each contig has DTRs and encodes at least one hallmark gene of Duplodnaviria phages.
Notes on provenance and reuse: These are processed sequences and metadata tables as used in the manuscript. For original study context and source datasets, see Data File S1 and the corresponding records in JGI IMG/VR and related public resources referenced therein.
