LTER - Long-Term Ecological Research Program/H.J. Andrews Forest (AND)
LTER/AND010 [Summary adapted from the LTER Core Data Set Catalog]:
Fish populations and habitat structure have been assessed in more than
17 streams within and in the vicinity of the H.J. Andrews Experimental
Forest. These include local population assessments in streams (150-300
m in length) and basins (greater than 40 km in length). Fish species
included are rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, bull trout, chinook
salmon, and mountain whitefish. Population assessment methods include
multiple pass electroshocking and diver observation. Size class
distributions and length and weight relationships are available for
all electroshocking assessments, and visual approximations.
The Andrews Forest is in the western Cascade Range of Oregon in the
15,800-acre drainage basin of the Lookout Creek, a tributary of Blue
River and the McKenzie River. The area elevation ranges from 1350
feet to 5340 feet and contains excellent examples of Pacific Northwest
conifer forests, wildlife, and ecosystems.
