South African Health Facilities by Local Municipality

This dataset provides the number of health facilities per local municipality in South Africa. It includes facility counts for each municipality, along with a “Total” column that indicates the total number of facilities within each local municipality. The data is compiled from multiple sources: the ArcGIS portal of the City of Cape Town (https://odp-cctegis.opendata.arcgis.com/datasets/cctegis::health-care-facilities-clinics-hospitals/about), the National Department of Health Data Dictionary (NDOH) NIDS Integrated dataset (https://dd.dhmis.org/orgunits.html?file=NIDS%20Integrated&source=nids&ver=6326), and health facilities managed by the public health sector in South Africa (DOI: 10.15493/SARVA.181121-2). The integration of these datasets was necessary because the NIDS Integrated dataset does not contain information for the Western Cape Province. To address this gap, the City of Cape Town provided facility locations for the Cape Town Metropolitan area, while the public health sector dataset supplied the locations of facilities across all other municipalities in the Western Cape (and supplemented the Cape Town Metro data).
