Phyllosticta citricarpa is quarantine pathogenic fungus in the European Union (EU). If introduced in the EU, it would jeopardize the citrus growing sector. In this study we re-examined the taxonomy of P. citricarpa and its sister species Phyllosticta paracitricarpa and aimed at the development of a specific detection assay targeting the quarantine species P. citricarpa.
