Soils as archives of cultural and natural history

WMS service LGB: Rhineland-Palatinate received an independent Landbodenschutzgesetz (LBodSchG) on 2 August 2005. This describes the structure and content of the Rhineland-Palatinate Soil Information System (BIS RP). Furthermore, the designation of soil protection and soil pollution areas is foreseen. These territorial identifications also entail provisions of territorial measures to be carried out there. The brochure Deservable and vulnerable soils in Rhineland-Palatinate primarily provide basic information on natural functions, archive functions and the agricultural use function of the soil. The maps of this work are compiled in a Mapserver application. Detailed information on the individual soil functions can be found in the brochure http://www.muf.rlp.de/234/. In order to assess the degree of protection and vulnerability of soils in Rhineland-Palatinate, easy-to-use and generally accepted methods for assessing the individual soil functions were used.
