Funerary Stele of the Girl Silenis

Attica (Greece), acquired in 1898Marble, around 350 BC The girl Silenis appears here in the typical costume of the parthenoi, the Athenian unmarried virgins. The long hair in the neck and the cloak covering the back are characteristic elements. A small loutrophoros, the bridal bath vessel, in the pediment symbolically points towards the missed out wedding. This object is part of Scan The World.
