A population dynamics model of hematophagous midges of the genus Culicoides has been developed for Reunion Island. It simulates the abundance of each of the five Culicoides species (C. bolitinos, C. enderleini, C. grahamii, C. imicola and C. kibatiensis) present in Reunion Island, which are potentially involved in the transmission of bluetongue and epizootic hemorrhagic diseases. The model is based on a statistical approach and predicts the Culicoides abundance from meteorological and satellite-derived environmental data. The model has be developed using Ocelet domain specific language for modelling spatial dynamics, which comes with a model development and simulation environment: Ocelet Modelling Platform. http://www.ocelet.org (2019-05-15)
