Gold-weight in the form of concave open-work shield at The British Museum, London

Lost wax cast figurative goldweight, in brass, in the form of a concave rectangular shaped openwork shield (ekyem) frame decorated with representations of 12 crotal bells at the intersections. On the reverse there is a representation of a handle. There is a patch of grey coloured metal solder (?) in the bottom right hand corner. A proverb associated with this weight states: 'If you have a shield and if you strike yourself with it thirty times, we don't blame you.' This object is part of Scan The World. Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for the public to access for free.
