This publication includes data on health-related research & development (R & D) carried out by companies, institutions and universities. The R & D efforts are measured in labour volume (FTE) and in expenditure.

Status of the figures:
The figures are final unless otherwise stated.
Changes as of 14 January 2011:
— New figures for 2005, 2006 and 2007 have been added.
— By providing better information on the individual functions of university medical centres (UMCs), namely curative care, research and education, the 2003 and 2004 figures on Health-related R & D of universities and UMCs have been adjusted.
